Picked Lu and Rachael up from the airport Monday night without incident. While I had the good company of colleagues and friends while they were away it was, as always, very good to see them. Rachael had grown again I'm sure :)
One of the CD's I picked up on the weekend was Derek Sherinian's Black Utopia Good stuff. He held the keyboardist spot in Dream Theater between Kevin Moore's departure and Jordan Rudess coming on board. Black Utopia has an impressive list of collaborators including Al Dimeola, Zakk Wylde, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Lukather and Billy Sheehan and ranges in styles from metal through to jazz. First few listens through I was sure I'd heard track five before and eventually looked on the album cover to see it was a cover of Jan Hammer's Starcycle from Hammers days with Jeff Beck. Very cool track and can recommend the album if you like prog rock sort of stuff.
Variety in the workplace - colleague stopped by my office and we had a fairly detailed technical discussion about bringup of Linux on a new pSeries system. Then shifted to talking about rules that might disallow fish in a fishtank in an office. Concluded talking about scuba diving in Australia. Some interesting context switches :)
